PRIVATE INSTRUCTION WITH SUSAN

Susan will be available, by appointment only, every Saturday for Private Lessons, One on One Instruction, Canine Troubleshooting, Doggy Tune Ups, or to address whatever needs you and your pooch may have that need to be addressed on a personal level.

The cost of each private session for any dogs enrolled in one of our six week classes is $80. The cost of each private session for all other dogs is $100. Please note that there are no refunds once a private instruction is paid for.

"IN-HOME" PRIVATE INSTRUCTION WITH SUSAN

Susan will be available, by appointment only, for Private "In-Home" Instruction. During this private instruction, Susan will help you and your family to address whatever needs you and your pooch may have that need to be addressed on a personal level.

PUPPY PARENTING

Being a puppy parent is a tough job; but you can avoid many of the common errors and pitfalls that go along with puppy raising. Learn about the stages of your pup's development, what to expect, and how to create a safe home environment for your pup. Get started on some basic relationship-building with your pup that will help him understand the rules of your house -- and keep everyone happy. And, address any of the specific problems that you're having with your pup. This is a private one-on-one class so you'll have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you'd like about your puppy's behavior.

Bring the whole family for no extra charge! If you bring children under the age of 10 please bring something for them to do - like a book or gameboy.

BASIC OBEDIENCE LEVEL I

This class consists of six 45 minute sessions. It is for "teenage" and adult dogs 5 months and over at the start of class. The course provides an introduction to essential obedience skills, reinforces good manners, and focuses on common training challenges. Includes sit, down, stay, coming when called, loose lead walking, greeting guests politely and manners around food.

Class Length: 40 to 60 minutes
# of Sessions: 6

BASIC OBEDIENCE LEVEL II

This class is for "teenage" and adult dogs 6 months and up at the start of class. We recommend the completion of Basic Obedience Level I prior to taking this class. The class builds on and refines basic obedience skills and manners, with a focus on developing pet behaviors that are envied by relatives, neighbors and friends. Your dog will learn to "mind their manners" at home and in public, and stay focused on the task at hand even with temptations and distractions.

Class Length: 40 to 60 minutes

SHAPING BEHAVIOR - LEVEL I

This is one of our most popular classes. Communication is something we all try and do with our dog. And shaping makes it easy to communicate with your dog. Have your ever wondered about "clicker training"? Or how to get complex behaviors like having your dog turn on a light switch? Shaping is what it is all about! Imagine being able to communicate with your dog and tell him or her "you're close", "go a little further", "almost there", "hey, you got it!" all while having fun! These classes, using positive methods, will help fine tune your ability to communicate with your dog while teaching your dog the things you want him or her to learn. Shaping helps with EVERYTHING! Problem solving, basic behavior, Pet Tricks, Obedience, Agility, Animal Assisted Therapy, Rally - it's all easier if you know how to shape your dog's behavior.

This class is a great follow up to Basic Obedience I. However, there are no prior courses required to be completed in order to take this course.

WOW! WE'RE WALKING

Loose lead lessons for persistent pullers! Do you feel like your arms are being stretched? Does is feel like your dog is in training for the Iditarod (sled dog race?) Does your dog lunge and pull towards other dogs? Would your dog like to run and greet everyone she sees, even if that involves dragging your through the mud? Are you worried about becoming airborne on windy days? If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above then this class is just what your chiropractor ordered. We have a variety of collars and harnesses that can help you take back control of your daily walks. Your dog will have more fun if they get to walk with you more often. And you're more likely to take them if walks are a pleasure, not a pain!

REMARKABLE RECALLS

Does your dog have selective hearing when you call? Are you tired of chasing your dog across the park? Does your dog come when HE feels like it? Then this is the class for you! All recall work, all the time! We'll use treats and toys as well as a long line. You deserve to have a dog that comes when called! The class is just three sessions and the last will be held outdoors, weather permitting.

STUPID PET TRICKS

Stupid pet tricks for smart pets! Fun stuff for you and your dog. Counting, jumping through hoops, dog bowling, taking a bow, closing the door, and more! Great for dogs who have children at home, are easily bored, participate in Animal Assisted Activity/Animal Assisted Therapy programs, or just like to strut their stuff!

There are no requirements for this class but taking the Shaping Class certainly helps and a Basic Obedience class is recommended.

A Little Bit About Susan...


Susan comes to us with almost 20 years of "doggy" experience. Her training expertise includes Competition Obedience, Animal Assisted Therapy, Rally Obedience, Puppy Kindergarten & Basic Obedience, Pet Tricks, Show Handling, and activities such as Lure Coursing, Agility, Flyball, and Carting.


Susan trains and handles dogs for television, commercials and various other forms of media. Again...some of her many credits include Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Martha Stewart – The Apprentice, Home Depot, Lowe’s, One Life to Live, All My Children, Pedigree, Subway, Verizon, Claritin, Bank of America, Nordstroms, American Express, Bell South, Volkswagon, L’oreal, US News, World Report, and Purina Beneful.


She is a lecturer, consultant, and author on topics that include Animal Assisted Therapy, Managing Canine Stress, Animal Assisted Crisis Response, and Service Animals for schools, institutions, hospitals and government agencies.


She is the founding member of the Northeast Crisis Response Coalition whose mission is to pool specialized resources in order to coordinate Animal Assisted Therapy/Activity organizations for Crisis Response Work and provide a structure for rapid response and incident command.


She is the executive Director of Dogs In Service, an organization that supplies trained Assistance Dogs to people living with disabilities, supervises Animal Assisted Therapy programs and provides public education on AAT and Service Dogs to schools, government institutions and community groups.


Susan is the Therapy Dog Coordinator for The Family Assistance Center at Liberty State Park. Her role involved coordinating 142 dog/handler teams from 4 organizations under the guidance of New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Mental Health from September 2001 through January 2002. The teams worked with family members, first responders and disaster workers after the events of 9/11/01.


Susan and her dog Tuka were the only dog/handler team in New Jersey invited to participate in the Federal Gateway Response Chemical Weapons Full-Scale Disaster Exercise in November of 2003.
